Failure is the Way Forward

  • Holding Redlich 555 Bourke Street Melbourne, VIC, 3000 Australia (map)

The holiday season is a great time for reflection so to set the tone for this Christmas break we wanted to focus on a topic that we often avoid – failing.

To quote Mark Manson (The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck); “Improvement at anything is based on thousands of tiny failures, and the magnitude of your success is based on how many times you’ve failed at something.”

Whilst failures can be embarrassing and unnerving, a lack of failure confines us.

The reality is that failure is unavoidable if you are setting out to create something new. Successful people act quickly and without fear, even when they fail. The ability to take quick and decisive action can help you turn the worst phase of your life into one of learning and growth.

Join our panel to discuss why we should be reflecting on our failures over this holiday break as we hear from them on:

  • Their catastrophic fails this year
  • What they learnt from it and advice for others to avoid it
  • What other failures in industry have caught their attention
  • What they’ll be doing differently in 2018

He started at age 20 operating out of his bedroom.  Glenn emerged as a technology leader ahead of his time reinventing business practice through eCommerce.  His advice and guidance revolutionised companies generating billions in online turnover.  Glenn often speaks on eCommerce, data engineering, cloud design & architecture, AGILE development, business strategy, intelligent systems, financial modelling and other topics with an emerging interest in blockchain.

His bold ideas are matched with a high tenacity and commitment to deliver.  Glenn leads the commercial vision for TOTECS.com and SQUIZZ.com and serves as CEO of both companies.

Her career path has been as varied as exciting and through her journey she has learnt to include failure as an integral part and stepping stone to success.

Bec Kempster - CEO, The Churchill Club

Bec took over the reigns of the Churchill Club Australia in late 2015 and since then has been the driving force behind strategic change to focus on the role emerging technologies can play in solving the problems of industry.

She has over twelve years experience in marketing, specifically in digital and brand strategy, having both worked agency and client side. Prior to consulting, she was Head of Client Services & Strategy at Carter Digital and has worked on digital and brand activations with numerous businesses including World Vision Australia, The Royal Women’s Hospital, Meat & Livestock Australia, Bonds and Greening Australia. Her ‘people-first’ approach to technology came from straddling the divide between client ‘wants’ and developer ‘realities’ and successfully translating technical jargon into common parlance.

Having launched and failed her own startups, Bec is a big believer in the benefits we all stand to gain from collective learning. She will be sharing her experiences from earlier this year with a failed fundraising platform for charitable organisations and associations.
