Ben Burge Ben is the Chief Executive of Melbourne-based merchant bank and venture capital group J.T. Campbell & Co, winning the Australian Venture Capital Association’s award for Principal Deal of the year in 2005. Ben is a lawyer and has worked in venture capital and corporate finance for over a decade, with specialist exposure to financial services, media and energy. Ben is the Chairman of Secure Energy Pty Ltd. Ben was the founding CEO of ASX-listed digital media company emitch Limited (now Mitchell Communications Group Limited). He is a former Director of PriceWaterhouseCoopers and an Associate Partner of IBM Business Consulting.
Greg Barnes Greg is currently an Executive Director of Imprimatur Capital, a London based private investment firm. He is jointly responsible for running the Asia Pacific operations and is currently based in Australia.
Imprimatur Capital is an international business that focuses on investment in Intellectual Property (IP) equity in both developed markets and emerging growth territories. Imprimatur’s business is founded on long term relationships with Universities in each of these territories and the Company is engaged in Principal Investment, Fund Management and Corporate Finance. Before joining Imprimatur Capital Greg was a Vice President at JP MorganChase & Co. working as global portfolio manager and head of the Asia ex Japan investment team. During 8 years with JP Morgan Investment Management he has worked in Singapore and London.
Other roles held by Greg have been Chief Investment Officer of Jardine Fleming Australia, Portfolio Manager of the China Fund, CH Investment Management (a joint venture of Hambros Bank and the China International Trust and Investment Corporation – CITIC) and Australian Equity Portfolio Manager for the NSW State Superannuation Investment Management Corporation. Greg obtained a B.Sc. from Macquarie University and an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management.
Joe Barber Joe is co-founder of Third Screen Media in Australia and has been instrumental in the transition of the company from a consumer entertainment mobile download business into a leading Australian mobile marketing business. Third Screen have developed a suite of products and services to facilitate mobile marketing, advertising and business re-engineering.
The technology infrastructure conceptualised by Joe and developed by Third Screen Media over a 3 year period are market leading in many areas including its handling of MMS and cascading failover delivery strategies.
The campaign ECO-System has many plug in modules offering major brands, agencies and organisations a range of creative and innovative execution options from image/face recognition, server side QR Codes, on deck portals and dynamic ticketing. 2008 has seen the most rapid growth and expansion of Third Screen Media both domestically and internationally. Joe is focussed on leading Third Screen Media with continued innovation and market leading extensions to the already extensive technology platform.
Prior to Third Screen Media and Joe was founder and senior partner at the Northgate Group, a boutique strategy consulting firm focussed on providing a diverse range of business assistance for early to mid stage technology firms. Joe’s activities included assistance with government grant programs such as COMET and the traditional capital raising and structuring challenges of emerging companies.
Building on an RMIT Applied Science foundation, Joe transitioned out of the technical field and specialised on the sales, marketing and business development activities. Joe’s early experiences started with Informix and Oracle, prior to forming his own companies, investing in others and consulting. In the early 90’s Joe acquired a major stake in his first business and from there has continued to focus on business creation and building. He was co-founder of “Planet Internet” which was one of the very early ISP’s in 1995 and later sold after being well recognised nationally. Joe was co-founder of a technology start-up and managed to raise over $7M in venture funds before moving on to take over a family business which he restructured and sold to a public company.
Joe has had vast international experience with long periods in the North American market, distribution of products throughout Europe and founding a business in Malaysia. Joe has excellent working financial and budgeting skills, corporate governance knowledge and general legal skills supported by high end strategic marketing projects and a strong sales track record. He has raised over $17M through both the private angel network and venture capital communities for his own companies and acting as a consultant for others. Joe’s diverse technical skills, spanning most IT&T areas are surpassed only by his selling and business acumen. Joe’s focus is on Third Screen Media and a small number of strategic business consultancies, Joe is also active in public speaking, mentoring and working with many groups and individuals.
